Hey folks! It’s been a great month of blog-building this June, and we’re ready to start July with a number of site updates and plans for the rest of the year.
Donations Open
Perhaps the biggest addition to the site this month – we now have a Ko-Fi page! You can reach it via the above link or the purple button on the bottom of every page on the site.
While this site is a passion project at its core, it costs a not-insignificant amount of money to pay for gas, transit fees, webhosting fees, and the Adobe subscription I use to edit photos for publication. Donations will absolutely help cover those costs, and help us expand the site into additional projects beyond just this website (including one we’ll discuss in the next section!).
If you enjoy our content, and have the money to give, now there’s a way to support us! If you do decide to donate, even just a dollar or two, we seriously appreciate any amount you can give.
Many Roads Podcast
Now that donations are open, we’ve decided it’s finally time to start working on an idea we’ve had for a while now – the Many Roads of Massachusetts podcast series.
This will be an episodic investigative series on weird local trivia and obscure internet mysteries about the Bay State, where we’ll travel to a different town each week and speak with locals to learn about each case. I personally find a lot of inspiration in the feature stories of WBUR and Maine Public Radio, as well as the newer web-based journalism of folks like Tom Scott and Phil Edwards. So if you like that sort of content, I think you’ll like this podcast!
As of right now, we plan on starting the series in December, but that’s entirely dependent on the interest and support of readers. If the first series goes well, we’ll definitely continue with stories in other states in the future!
Site Design
You may have noticed that the overall website design has turned quite blue in the past week. This is by no means a final design, but rather a proof of concept for a new color scheme we’re going for, inspired by the design of the Delorme Maine Atlas I use for much of the planning behind One Roads.
Keith (who has been doing a great job with editing this past month, might I add) is currently working on a few graphics to spice up the site beyond basic colors. Hopefully by this time next month it’ll look a lot closer to the final product we’re going for.
This Week
Keith and I will be taking a one-week break from posting due to the July 4th holiday and our respective family vacations. Our next post, covering a scenic bus route somewhere on Massachusetts’ North Shore, will release on Friday the 17th!
Small Update to Our Last Post:
You may remember from the R Line post that I was looking for more information on a certain radio service in Providence. Well, none other than my travel partner Shen was able to solve the mystery!
The service is called Broad Street Stories, and there’s actually three recording booths around the neighborhood. It has a very limited listening radius that’s pretty much only within southern Providence, but their website does feature a live feed, so if you check in from time to time you may even hear some locals putting on a show.
