Hey folks! Rin here. Today’s monthly update will be a short one, but there’s a lot of good stuff to report in terms of where we’re at.
Stats Recap
The first month back to working on this has been a huge success so far on the background side of things! We released our first article since reopening the blog last month, and the first article covering public transportation, to great reception. In fact, the days after we posted the Fairmount Line story turned into the most successful week ever on the blog, with over 200 visitors giving the new story a read.
Thank you all so much for taking a look! It seriously means a lot to me to see people enjoying my writing, and I hope you’ll continue to enjoy what we have coming out this month.
June Posts
I’ve been using the month of May mostly to plan out future articles and do a few One Roads, and I’m excited to announce that the next three adventures are completed and in the writing process now. This month, you’ll see two driven adventures and a local bus trip, taking us across three (or technically five) different states.
One such post will be out later tonight. While posts will usually release every other Friday, last week’s was delayed due to new phone issues and a VERY busy weekend we planned for all week (you’ll see why it was so busy in a couple of paragraphs). So I’m releasing it tonight instead, after a few more edits. Thanks for your patience!
Short YouTube Update
Even though nothing was posted there last month, I can promise you that we’re still working on video content. Though, being honest, it’s gone a quite a bit slower than expected so far since we’ve really been focusing on getting the written work ahead of schedule.
The big update in terms of YouTube content is that we did get to play and film our game of Jet Lag across the MBTA, and it went off (mostly) without a hitch! We played as two teams of two between May 30th and 31st, and without spoiling our hiding zones or the results, I think it’s safe to say that we took every possible form of public transit in the system at some point during the game! There’ll also be a couple segments that are technically One Roads, since we went from the beginning to the end of the routes. Maybe I’ll add them to the map when the two-episode series gets posted!
In terms of a set-in-stone release schedule, I can’t promise anytime yet unfortunately. But the Quincy walk described in last month’s update will be the first to release for sure. We have more ideas for video adventures that go beyond single One Road trips, including a long-term mission to acquire as many library cards across Massachusetts as possible, but we don’t plan on starting them until at least one long-form video is complete and uploaded to the channel, which will hopefully be at some point this summer.
One Road is Now a Team (Officially!)
You may have noticed that in this update, I’ve used the terms “we” and “us” quite a bit more than usual. That’s partially because of all the help several of my friends have given me in reviewing, advising, and even coming along for the ride during this past month of One Roads. I sincerely appreciate all the help!
But beyond passing discussions and trips with friends, this blog and all photos have editorially been entirely written and edited by myself, Rin Gately.
Today, I’m very happy to announce that my good friend Keith Libby will be officially joining One Road as an editorial intern this summer!
The core style and topics posted onto One Road will of course stay the same, but I hope with Keith on board that we’ll be able to get stories done more efficiently and accurately. As of now, I will still be handling all editing on the photography side of things, but Keith will be helping out quite a bit with the written side of things. By the end of the summer, you may begin seeing Keith alongside me on the byline, or even posting some One Roads of his own!
We’re very excited for what we have planned for One Road this summer, and hope you’ll join us for the journey! As always, if you have any questions or suggestions you can reach us at oneroadnewengland@gmail.com.
Keep adventuring!
- Rin
